Submerged in Eindhoven, Netherlands

November 2017
A cooperation between three international celebrities. Fiber optic sculptures by Annie Mitchell (US), Sound Design by Philip Ross (Netherlands), Ambient lighting by Kari Kola (Finland).
Submerged is about the different aspects of water. The area around the Van Abbe Museum is interesting with its river and natural setting that meets the modern infrastructure. The idea was to employ water as the basis for this installation, because it has different tempos: moving or still in such an organic way that it is impossible to replicate. Movement, reflections and tranquillity play an important role in how water expresses itself. Through its continually changing form, water speaks its own language as it were. In this work all these aspects are exposed with light and sound for you to experience. Both media have their origins in the surface of the Dommel. Formed by the dynamic energy of the water they find their way to the space above, and offer an experience that is a merging of work by the artists and the fickle flow of the river. So that we see and hear the language of the river in a new way and the visitor is drawn into the peace and comfort of the ever-flowing water.
